China's official Xinhua news agency reports several explosions in
the northwestern region of Xinjiang, citing witnesses who said they
saw flashes of fire and sporadic gunshots afterwards.
The agency
says the blasts killed two people. The incident occurred in the
county of Kuqa, home to about 400,000 people in the predominantly
Muslim region. Witnesses added that police have cordoned off the
area and the military has moved in to intervene. No official
information on casualties was immediately available. An August 4
attack in Xinjiang killed 16 policemen.
