The European Union has called on Russia to respect Georgia's
internationally recognised borders.
A statement released by France,
which holds the EU's rotating presidency, warned that further
military action could damage relations between Russia and the EU.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council has concluded a
third emergency session in response to the fighting between Russia
and Georgia without agreeing on the wording of a joint statement.
Russian UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin accused Georgian President
Mikhail Saakashvili of military adventurism and an attempt at
genocide.
