The military situation in the Causcus conflict remains tense with
Russian forces advancing from Abhazia to the western Georgian city
of Senaki.
The Russian Defence Ministry said its troops had
eliminated the threat by Georgian troops to South Ossetia and now
in the process of withdrawing. Senaki is located near the border
with the breakaway region of Abhazia. Unconfirmed reports said
Russian troops had occupied the city of Gori earlier on Monday,
which lies near the border with South Ossetia. The Russian Defence
Ministry has denied the reports. Meanwhile the provincial
government of South Ossetia has said that Georgian forces have
started bombarding towns in the region again.
