Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is hopeful Steven Gerrard will recover from a thigh injury for the club's crucial Champions League qualifier.

Gerrard sustained the knock in last week's friendly against Valerenga, but will travel to Belgium ahead of the third qualifying round match first leg.

"He is progressing really well but we will check on Tuesday after training," said Benitez.

"I will speak with the doctor and with Steven and then decide."
