Faced with the prospect of a looming economic recession, the French
government has called on its European partners, especially those in
the eurozone, to co-operate more closely.
French Prime Minister
Francois Fillon announced after a special meeting of cabinet
ministers that France, as current EU president, would take the
initiative and called for a coordinated response to international
financial turmoil. Fillon added there was no need for a stimulus
package to boost the French economy despite new figures that showed
a sharp drop in economic growth.
