the defences of the main US base for southeastern Afghanistan.
Afghan provincial governor Arsala Jamal said NATO troops were still
fighting the remaining Taliban insurgents.
A group of 30 Taliban
fighters attacked Camp Salerno overnight near the town of Khost. At
least eight people were killed, including two children, when the
Taliban exploded their bombs. On Monday, ten Afghan civilians were
killed in a suicide bombing at the same US military base.
