As many as 3.12 million foreign tourists visited the Czech Republic in the Jan-June period, 3.6 percent more yr/yr, statisticians said.
With 1.87 million foreigners staying overnight, up 3.44 percent against Jan-June last year, Prague is the most frequently visited region in the country in the long term.
Prague's share in total visitors numbers has not changed and remains just below 60 percent. Prague is followed by Karlovarsky and Jihomoravsky regions, with more than 200,000 foreign tourists staying overnight in both regions.
Germans are traditionally the most frequent visitors, their number exceeding 704,000 in H1 this year, a slight drop over the same period last year.
British visitors rank second, their number falling significantly each year. A total of 239,000 Britons visited the country in the first half of the year, down by 11 percent yr/yr.
With 201,000 visitors, 35 percent more yr/yr, Russians rank third, their number steadily rising. Russians also rank among the nations which spend lots of money in the Czech Republic.
Experts' opinions on the tourism situation in the first half vary, with the positive opinion prevailing.
Travel agencies association spokesman Tomio Okamura said that there are still no hotels with more stars in some regions and tourists then return to Prague to stay there overnight.
