Weightlifter Matthias Steiner took gold in the men's super
heavyweight division after lifting a combined total of 461
kilograms. Jan Frodeno won gold in the triathlon, but gymnast
Fabian Hambüchen had to settle for bronze in the men's horizontal
bar. In Hong Kong, Isabel Werth on her horse Satchmo failed in her
bid to win a sixth career Olympic gold medal in the equestrian
individual dressage, taking silver instead. Heike Kemmer won the
bronze on Bonaparte. Germany is in fifth place in the medal
standings with 11 gold medals. China is top of the table ahead of
the US, Britain and Australia.
