The UN's top climate change official says time is running out in
the fight against global warming.
Speaking at a climate conference
in Ghana, Yvo de Boer said warned that industrialised countries
need to reach agreement on the rules to cut greenhouse gas
emissions. The head of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
made the remarks to more than 1,600 delegates from 160 countries
attending the latest round of UN climate change talks in Accra.
Ghana's President John Kufuor echoed the sense of urgency in his
opening remarks, noting that his country was already suffering the
consequences of global warming. The Group of Eight industrialised
powers have pledged to halve emissions by 2050, but critics say
intermediate goals are needed.
