A 45-nation meeting in Vienna on whether to lift a ban on trading
nuclear fuel and technology with India has ended inconclusively.
20
countries in the Nuclear Suppliers Group raised concerns about the
United States' proposal for a trade exemption for India. A
potential bilateral nuclear fuel deal between the US and India has
disturbed some countries and activists because India is not a
member of the global Non-Proliferation Treaty and developed nuclear
weapons with technology imported ostensibly for civilian ends. The
group has agreed to meet again early next month to try and resolve
the impasse.
