The United States and Iraq have issued conflicting statements on
the status of a deal to station foreign forces in Iraq as of next
year.
The Whitehouse is denying that it has reached a deal with
Baghdad, and says negotiations are continuing. Earlier, Iraqi Prime
Minister Nuri al-Maliki said the two powers had agreed on a "fixed
date", to pull foreign forces from Iraq by 2011. The 10-month-old
negotiations aim to find a replacement mandate for the United
Nations Security Council authorisation for foreign forces in Iraq,
which expires in December.
