Last Friday, the Bavarian criminal police announced that they had managed to uncover a global network of Internet paedophiles from 98 countries after a search lasting for years.
In Germany alone, 987 suspects are being prosecuted, but most of the suspects are from abroad.
There are 65 Poles, 38 Australians, 53 Turks and 80 Austrians among them.
The spokesman for the Bavarian police said today that the 1,000 connections to the server in Konstanz roughly corresponded with the number of connections from comparable countries such as the Netherlands.
Unlike their Polish and Austrian counterparts, the Czech police have not told the German police how many suspects they were investigating. This is not their duty.
The number of connections may not be identical with the number of the persons who have conducted it.
"We have only told the counterparts from other countries through the Interpol. The search for individual persons solely depends on them," the LKA spokesman said.
The German police found over 1800 video recordings and 45,000 images in the computers of the suspects.
They say they were on the paedophiles' track since 2006.
