Anti-government protesters in the Thai capital, Bangkok, have
pushed their way into the compound housing the offices of the prime
minister.
Thai television showed demonstrators from the right-wing
People's Alliance for Democracy on the lawns of the compound at
Government House. Earlier, armed Alliance protesters stormed a
state-run television station and briefly forced it off the air.
Police reportedly arrested some 80 people during the protest. The
Alliance claims that Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej is running
Thailand on behalf of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted
in a 2006 coup and is barred from holding office. Police say
escalating protests have attracted at least 10,000 people to the
streets.
