Power-sharing talks between Zimbabwe's ruling party and the
opposition have resumed in South Africa, more than two weeks after
they stalled due to a deadlock.
The talks include President Robert
Mugabe's ZANU-PF party and two factions of the opposition Movement
for Democratic Change. They follow threats by Mugabe to form a
government without opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, even though
Tsvangirai's MDC has a majority in parliament. Meanwhile Zimbabwe's
government finally yielded to pressure and said it would lift a
three-month ban on NGOs distributing food aid in the
hunger-stricken country.
