The trial of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has begun
at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in
the Hague.
Karadzic said he did not recognise the legitimacy of the
court and refused to enter pleas on any of the 11 charges against
him. The court entered not guilty pleas on all counts on his
behalf. The indictment includes genocide, crimes against humanity
and war crimes, relating among other things to the murder of
thousands of civilians in Srebrenica in 1995 by Bosnian Serb
forces. A next session was set for September 17.
