Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej says he will not resign
despite growing pressure from anti-government protesters.
Samak
made the statement during a televised ceremony in honor of
Thailand's royal family in Bangkok. The so-called People's Alliance
for Democracy (PAD) have staged five days of protests aimed at
toppling Samak's seven-month old government. They have occupied
government buildings in Bangkok and disrupted air and rail traffic
throughout the country. The conservative PAD accuse Samak of being
an illegitimate proxy of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra
who was ousted by a military coup in 2006.
