Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has traveled to Libya to
sign an agreement with his counterpart Muammar Gaddafi.
Under the
deal, which the leaders are calling a friendship pact, Italy will
pay around 3.5 billion euros in compensation for abuses committed
during its colonial rule of the North African country. Berlusconi
said the money would be invested in infrastructure projects in
Libya over the next 25 years. In return, Rome wants Libya to stem
the flow of illegal migrants turning up on Italian shores.
