Nigeria's largest armed group Movement for the Emancipation of the
Niger Delta says it has carried out three separate coordinated
attacks on government forces, killing at least 29 soldiers.
The
military dismmisses the claim. The rebel organisation says it is
fighting for greater control of the region's oil wealth by local
people. It has conducted a series of violent attacks on the oil
industry and kidnapped hundreds of local and expatriate workers.
