Русская версияThailand's Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej has vowed not to resign
despite growing pressure from anti-government protesters.
Samak has
called on parliament to help resolve the country's political
crisis. The Lower and Upper Houses are set to meet for a special
joint session on Sunday. This comes after six days of
anti-government protests staged by the opposition People's Alliance
for Democracy. They aim to topple Samak's seven-month-old
government. Protesters have occupied government buildings in
Bangkok and disrupted air and rail traffic throughout the country.
The conservative PAD accuses Samak of being an illegitimate proxy
of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was ousted in a
military coup in 2006.
