Hurricane Gustav has been downgraded to a Category 3 storm after
entering the Gulf of Mexico.
However, forecasters say the storm,
which is heading toward the US Gulf Coast, is expected to regain
strength and become a Category 4 hurricane later on Sunday. Gustav,
which has already killed over 80 people in the Caribbean, is
expected to make landfall on Monday afternoon somewhere between
western Mississippi and East Texas. The mayor of New Orleans Ray
Nagin has ordered a full evacuation of the city. Nagin described
Gustav as "the storm of the century" and urged all residents to
comply with the evacuation demand. The evacuation order is the
first in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city
three years ago. Katrina grew into a top Category 5 hurricane while
crossing the Gulf but finally hit the US as a Category 3.
